Ovenized crystal oscillator An ovenized crystal oscillator or OCXO is the most stable of all crystal oscillators. An ovenized crystal oscillator provides 10 to 1000 times more stability than a TCXO. Temperature stability can be in the order of 1 ppb. Ovenized oscillators typically have superior phase noise to other oscillators. An ovenized crystal oscillator typically employs AT or SC cut crystals and is enclosed in a special oven that is typically proportionally controlled. The a built-in oven keeps the crystal at a constant temperature – typically equal to the turning point of the crystal and above the maximum operating temperature. Ovenized oscillators are the largest, are the most expensive, consume the most power, and have a warm-up time compared to other crystal oscillators. However a low-cost ovenized oscillator can cost less than a high end TCXO. Filtronetics Inc can supply ovenized oscillators in through hole, and connectorized packages. Ovenized crystal oscillator outputs include pure sine wave, clipped sine wave, CMOS, TTL, HCMOS, ECL, and PECL. |
