OCXO An ovenized crystal oscillator or OCXO is the most stable of all crystal oscillators. An OCXO provides 10 to 1000 times more stability than a TCXO. Temperature stability can be in the order of 1 ppb. OCXO’s typically have superior phase noise to other oscillators. An OCXO typically employs AT or SC cut crystals and is enclosed in a special oven that is typically proportionally controlled. The a built-in oven keeps the crystal at a constant temperature – typically equal to the turning point of the crystal and above the maximum operating temperature. Ovenized oscillators are the largest, are the most expensive, consume the most power, and have a warm-up time compared to other crystal oscillators. However a low-cost OCXO can cost less than a high end TCXO. Filtronetics Inc can supply OCXO’s in through hole, and connectorized packages. OCXO outputs include pure sine wave, clipped sine wave, CMOS, TTL, HCMOS, ECL, and PECL. |
